When we stopped by Driftwood a few weeks back, we couldn't help but notice the shelving and clothes racks made out of old plumbing pipes. Then Gregory followed up with a House Tour this past Friday that had an entire bookshelf made of the exact same materials.
The world is definitely trying to tell us something that everyone else already knows--plumbing pipes used as exposed storage/display looks great. Whether the pipes are rusty and weather beaten or shiny and bright, the result is always the same--chic but organic. We also love that they look sturdy and give off an industrial vibe but can be balanced out with a whimsical scarf or umbrella.

The hubby made me a pot rack with plumbing pipe and S-hooks, kind of a double version of picture #4. Wonderful.
Love it!
Half the world is trying to hide "ugly" pipes while the other half is now using them for decorating.
I do not think, in most cases, that pipes used as whatever, are attractive. I could maybe go for it in a steampunk kind of way, but even then, I'd like the pipes to be brass or something. The pipes used in the house tour are painted black. Everything here is galvanized. Coming off of a farm, I'm not a big fan of galvanized - all I can think of when I see it is the smell that comes off on your hands.
COOL
Hey - Another great hack today!
I like!
Another of my favorite uses for plumbing pipes: Drapery Rods.
This is actually my coat rack! I got it from Second Drafts, and get compliments on it from everyone who sees it. Glad Apartment Therapy enjoyed it enough to post! You can see more here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/seconddrafts/
All kinds of great re-purposed, refinished furniture and ideas.
So cute!
