How often have you thought, "hmmm, if I could only reorient this door so that it didn't swing so far into the room?" Often there's little recourse to this challenge; if you want a door you just have to live with it. What if you had a choice? The Ergon by Venetian Celegon lets you make that choice...

A unique door mount, it allows a door to open by spinning around a central axis, saving up to 50% of the space that's wasted by a conventionally hung door's footprint.

A pocket door still opens up more space, is much less complicated, and is probably WAY cheaper. I guess this might be useful for those without that option due to wall building materials, the position of the doorway, etc.
yeah i still prefer pocket doors.
I used to work in an office that had doors similar to these and they were actually a nightmare. They required too much clearance on either side of the door and would regularly cause injuries as people were not expecting them to swing partly in towards them... granted in a residential application these might be nice
Eek. My cat would try to slip through the smaller opening and get squished. This is pinched fingers and cursing waiting to happen.
I agree - A pocket door would be preferable, tho for situations where there isn't space in the adjacent wall to install one, I can see this as being a useful solution.
When you look at the clearance when the door is open and the path of the door swing, you will see that it is no different than a normal door in terms of space being taken up. In fact, this door takes up more space because it goes in the opposite direction too. But if you want a really big looking door, I suppose this is the answer.
Oops - forget what I said above. I didn't look at the plans - I thought this was one of those doors with a pivot hinge more towards the middle.
I would get so annoyed trying to operate this thing. I would probably end up just leaving it open all the time.
Very cool look and I bet it'd feel good too. "Feel" is something I really enjoy in things I have to touch every day.
We actually do have a French door swing issue. Small house, two French doors: you can just imagine. I see that pocket doors or even a barn door style approach would save us more space yet than those cool doors above. If I had a huge loft though... that'd be a very appealing way to go!
Nice looking. I'd have to try it to see how it feels to use before voting thumbs up. (If it glides smoothly, yes. If it catches AT ALL, no.)
i think this is an awesome concept. i'd love to see one in person!
I would be happy to have such a cool looking door with just regular hinges...
Decent idea. A few flaws. Go with the pocket door instead.
Pocket doors aren't code for bedrooms in many municipalities so they're not always an option.
