What I Love About My Small Home:
When moving to California from NYC five years ago I took almost nothing except myself, my clothes and my surfboards. As soon as I stepped into this space, nestled on an iconic Venice walk street I knew it had considerable potential. Even with zero furniture it was already aesthetically pleasing with its structured, sun filled rooms, inviting ceramic flooring, plus the ocean air. I was hooked.

What I love most is the fact I started from scratch and year after year built upon the last. Each piece of furniture, every framed item of artwork, and its unique beach-chic style tells the story of a particular moment, country traveled to.. even a certain decor choice. All reflecting my personal interpretation of west coast living. I am proud to call it home and am mad about the energizing feeling it gives off every day.
Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Small Space::
Don't be scared to go against the norm. When you can't find that kitchen table that exactly fits, find someone to build you benches and create a breakfast nook instead. Give the illusion of large windows by hanging textured or layered curtains higher and longer than they actually are, or invest in organic fiber window treatments. Light is key.
Seek out big options, in simplicity. Although I am a self proclaimed pattern-on-pattern lover, I try and stick to a consistent color palate and constant muse. This helps avoid an assortment of competing looks and allows all the rooms to flow together; an essential for any successful small space.
Be picky, especially with your big ticket items. Sometimes your first choice may not be the most functional. If you think you love something, wait a week and see if you still adore it. If your not feeling it - return it!
