Name: Erin & Rob
Location: Old City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The biggest challenge in our apartment was figuring out how to break up one very long room into discrete dining, working, and living areas. Since we both work in publishing, we also had to figure out storage for a lot of books. (Ikea bookcases to the rescue!)
Most of our furnishings are sourced from flea markets, country auctions, and Ikea -- as inexpensively as possible. Our style is faded and comfortable and a little bit elegant. We like to put our feet up and not use coasters and leave the paper lying around on the weekend.
Thanks, Erin & Rob!

Loved the flow of the house. Please can you tell us from where did you get the bench with side rest. We are looking for similar bench but unable to find one.
So beautiful!
Really lovely!
Nicely done...but it was hard for me to really get a sense of the flow of the apartment with so few pictures of the long-view. I, too, have a long (though no where near THAT long) narrow apartment -which serves as my office, dining room and living room, with a tiny little kitchen tucked over on the side (bedroom is thankfully out of the way.) I have had some trouble breaking up the space in a way that is pleasing to me, so I'd love to see more of what you've done..
house tour!
Beautiful, I'd love to see more.
Full house tour!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a wall of IKEA Billy bookcases and still has to put books horizontally on top of the vertical ones.
House tour, please! It looks lovely, would like to see more.
I love your place
Lovely! Although any space would be charming with that many books.
I’m not far from Old City. Husband and I did the Society Hill Home and Garden Tour two weekends ago (there is a fantastic built-in bookcase in one of the photos)… and I was reminded of how wonderful that area of Philadelphia is, and how we need to spend more time there.
Thanks! Glad there are so many book lovers on AT!
The bench in front of the window is actually a day bed from the Civil War. It folds up and was carried for officers to sleep on. Here's a link to similar at auction: http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/7793286. We got ours (cheap) at an estate sale and just sewed the mattress for it. Happy hunting!
Love it! Would love to see a full house tour and the floor plan :)
Finally, a room with real bookcases. I've been getting saddened by all of the horizontal book towers which I think are more books as decoration than books as reading instrument.
Even the beagle has his spot tucked under the table! I love the feeling of the space, the books and that great wing chair. Congrats.
