Erin and Sean’s blog, Olive our House, was first started when they were living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and remodeling a house on Olive Street. After doing a great job with that one, a move to Washington D.C. threw a new house challenge into their life! With great bones and a lot of space, their new house in D.C. didn’t look terrible, but it did lack Erin’s signature sophisticated and fun style. Slapping on coats of paint and filling it with furniture and furnishings they love, you can see that they didn’t make huge, expensive changes, but the ones they did make were really effective and really good-looking.
Happy one year house-aversary, you two! You can check out lots more photos, plus DIY projects and details to what's in this house on their blog, Olive our House.
We can't wait until the remaining rooms are finished up (according to the blog it looks like the master bedroom still needs Erin's style touch) and hope we can have a full house tour of this place one day!

Nomade Express Slee...
It was bland, it is now elegant.
I like the "before" kitchen better.
Woah! I know Sean! What a lovely place. Sean, we miss you in Baton Rouge. The JIC will never be the same again... - Lindsey
We've lived in our former-shop-turned-house for five years, and haven't accomplished HALF of what they have: it's beautiful! All these "afters" are impressive, and the rest, on the blog (which I immediately bookmarked), filled me with admiration, too. Bravo!
Very nice transformations, but I'm with laffin...prefer the "before" kitchen more.
Great Job. All of your choice are fantastic! I really like the outside of the house!
I love all of the changes. What a beautiful bunch of changes.
Very, very nice! I like everything! The grays make it more desirable to live in during this hot weather.
Great job!
Flipping from picture to picture it went from bright and cheery to calm and serene. Both great choice in feelings. I prefer the darker colors but at the same time the lighter colors in the before had a certain charm. Good work all around! Particularly love the rug in the living room! Oh, and I prefer the after kitchen. :)
LOVE the colors! -Teresa
That blue front door is genius!! I adore it!
I see new appliances in the kitchen, but otherwise, I kind of like cheerier kitchens. (Probably because I hate to cook and need a lift just to get started.)
That said, I love every other change.
Very nice. I like the "after" kitchen better mostly because I think the previous wall color made the grey counters and floors look to shabby, and the whole effect was kitschy. The after all blends together nicely. I tend to like a cheery kitchen, too, but here I think the kitchen is much improved after.
I love the dark colors in the after pictures. I really like the rug and drapes int he living room too. I prefer the after kitchen as well, but I think I like the before stove.
Loooove it! That is so awesome!
Wow, nice job. I love the grays they used on the walls. Does she give the color names anywhere?
Much better! Colorful and elegant!
the living room looks just like mine (the before, sadly) - great ideas for decorating our new space.
thanks for all the nice comments! i braced myself for the worst ha.
in regards to the kitchen- i'm not at all a "bright and cheery" person so the gray suits me much better! i also prefer cool colors to warm (as you can see!).
@Cassis - the living room is behr's "porpoise", the kitchen is the same color, but lighter. guest room is BM's "river reflections". and just to cover everything, exterior is BM's "smoked oyster" with "wrought iron" shutters and "radiccio" door.
Thank you, Erin. The living room gray is particularly elegant.
oh, how I want those curtains so badly. We moved into our home almost a year ago and still haven't found curtains to go with our wall color and furniture in our living room. sadly we have 2 windows with brown curtains and 1 with navy....those are gorg!
WOW. The after photos are so soothing to look at. Great job!
The color changes are brilliant!
every wall color is grey...
Nice. i love all the updates. Great job!
Much better!
Beautiful :)
The afters are much, much better. The gray is beautiful, but I prefer bright and cheery myself.
I love your house, i love the grey, adding you to my reader and hoping to see lots more from you :)
Looks beautiful! The paint choice really opened up the kitchen! It looks bigger! Great job!
wow, i love them all!
LOVE IT!
omg what a cute lil house! I love the curb appeal! nice job inside too!
yeah yellow can suck it!
would you mind sharing where you got that circular (mirrored?) coffee table in the living room? thanks!
fcresenc- i got the coffee table (glass, not mirrored) at a local (dc) shop- random harvest. http://www.randomharvesthome.com/
They have done an amazing job. A classic, tasteful makeover by people with taste!
A change of taste ... from female to male?
I enjoy the colors of the warm 'before'-state ...
Love the area rug! Any suggestions as to where to purchase a simmilar emerald color pattern?
great transformation!
It's really great. I would never have bet that THAT much grey could be that amazing.
Such a cute house. Loved them all, except the kitchen, maybe, but if the owners like it, who are we to say anything ? :)
Much better!!!
Love the transformation and use of gray. It's not for everyone but I love it!
Cold you please share where you got the light in your kitchen?
EMY8777 - the light is from ikea!
Riti Roy - we don't love the kitchen either (hello laminate!). someday...
Love the before and after. Nice taste either way.
The Livingroom feels so much warmer and I do like the entire re-do. For me, I did perfer the kitchen. I like kitchens that are warmer feeling and the yellow did tht. But again, everything done is lovely.
