I love a project that lets even those of us who aren't exactly artistic still create original art. This DIY project, using a doormat as a stencil, is a perfect way to feel like an artist even without mad skills.

Erin, over at Lemon Tree Creations, used a few pieces of poplar board and a doormat to create this handsome wall art. First, Erin stained the boards with a dark walnut color. After the stain had dried, Erin put two of the boards side by side, laid the doormat she had pick up at Lowe's on top of them, and then sprayed white paint over it. It took four passes of spray paint to get into all the nooks and crannies. After allowing the paint to dry for about thirty minutes, Erin lifted off the doormat to reveal her new DIY art.

I love the look that this created. The wood grain popping through with the white pattern is quite nice. I could even see going a little further and applying this treatment to an entire wall!

Fabulous!
Dividing each design into two panels was an inspired touch, also.
Love it!
that came out nicely!
I like it! Great idea and beautiful design!
I have friends that did this, and to me I saw a doormat on the wall before I saw an art print or a nice pattern. It was possibly just poorly done, but I wasn't a big fan.
Similar to Jdad's thoughts, when I first saw this picture I wondered why someone had hung a doormat on the wall.
I didn't see a doormat at all when I looked at the finished product. I thought it was sort of Morrocan. It looks great.
