Escapes: Stay and Get Caught Up or Go and Fall Behind?

One catch 22 for those of us who work is that in order to take more than a weekend get-away we have to take time off work and risk falling behind. Is the vacation worth the additional stress of having to play catch up when you return? So how do you weigh the pros and cons?

Sometimes you're so burnt out you have to take a break for more than 2 days regardless of the consequences. Or maybe your job is a lot more laid back in the summertime or you have a kick ass assistant that you can rely on. Are you more likely to just risk the additional stress of playing catch up or would you rather relax at home, find some things to do locally and be refreshed come monday morning?
