An eco-friendly dome house made of polystyrene that can withstand earthquakes and typhoons?
Apparently the Japanese are cooler than us. We do have geodesic domes but c'mon, these domes are built from 5 basic components and start at around $41,000. It takes 'prefab' and 'small space' to a whole new level.

Polystyrene is highly flammable and incredibly toxic when burning - The US forbids it's use in construction unless it's completely encased in drywall (impossible in a curve) sheetmetal or concrete. Polystyrene is also derived from benzine and styrene - both petroleum products - and benzine is a known carcinogen.
Finally, several municipalities have banned food containers made of polystyrene in recent years, including Portland, San Francisco and Suffolk County, NY - so I doubt we'll see houses made of of this stuff anytime soon.
