Stupid and Superstitious - Nothing worse than cutting a baby from it's mother before it's ready. My nephew and niece were both born prematurely (cause unknown) and have health problems as a result.

I'm not watching the Games - China doesn't deserve them and I'd really prefer that AT remain an "Olympic Free" Zone.

I don't know...I've sort of lost interest in the Olympics after the 1992 games where we had the "Dream Team". What did these high priced athletes have to prove in competing? My feeling is that they should go back to only allowing amateurs competing. Professional athletes have their own competing arena and are highly compensated for it.

Love the Olympics, too, but hate NBC's time-wasting smarminess about the athletes when viewers could be--duh--watching the sports! Of course, I watch anyway, but crikey.

as a former wedding planner, the 8/8/08 date makes me want to scream. I think I booked that date 3 years ago.

People can be superstitious it doesn't make it stupid it shows that they believe in a higher power. And the Olympics is first and foremost a sporting event where the world can come together and compete. Just because you don't feel like watching it (in your own private and unheard unnoticed protest) doesn't mean the rest of us can't enjoy it.

Oh and AT can post about the Olympics as much as they want, its called free speech, an amendment that you clearly take advantage of.

The olympics are WORLD games. everyone gets involved, excited and spirited... i say to AT: post as much as you'd like to about the olympics. but dont pick a country... you have readers from all over :P

Issues such as Sex And The City on the other hand and other such popular culture items are understandably groaned at by readers.... they arent worldly in the least. but the olympics? come on! you can shut them out if you like... just dont ask us to.

I'm not watching the Opening Ceremony tonight. To me, Athens was IT. But I majored in Classical Archaeology so maybe I'm a little biased:

Back to the post...I won't be home tonight to watch, but I'm definitely interested in the Olympics. There has been a lot said about how unhealthy these Games are because of the poor air quality in China (is this what bepsf means by China not deserving to host?) and the handicap this puts on the athletes. Apparently a mountain has been spray-painted/dyed green (!?) to mask the polluted reality. My hope is that the Games shed some light on the environmental crisis there. I think we can all benefit from that.
