One of the easiest ways of saving money is by replacing your old school incandescent bulbs and replacing them with high tech alternatives. LEDs have been on the market for a few years, but Eternaleds just unveiled their liquid-cooled LED bulb, which will last about 35,000 hours! Now this will save you a lot of money over the long run.

Who would have thought that an LED could have such a long lasting life. Sure, some LEDs can last 70,000 hours, but this number isn't realistic. Realistically, LED bulbs will last 3 to 7 times longer than incandescent ones. The Hydralux-4 lasts 35 times longer than the incandescent bulb, that's 5 to 11 times longer than usual LED bulbs.

The only reason why LEDs don't last as long is because of thermal management issues. We have seen reports of some LEDs lasting over 100,000 hours, but this can vary widely. Even though LEDs can last a long time, usually they will need to be replaced before the end of their life due to inadequate illumination. The Hydralux-4 will save you a lot on your next power bill if you convert all of your lighting to this highly efficient bulb. You can choose between warm white or daylight white. The bulbs themselves produce something Eternaleds calls "360 degree lighting", which means that the light it produces is just like the light from a regular bulb. That's neat, because we've never really been fans of the energy efficient fluorescent bulbs. The bulb will produce the same amount of illumination as a 25W incandescent bulb with only 4W of energy.

Listen to these numbers. Each bulb will save you on average about $14 a year, that's counting on the facts that the light will be on 8 hours a day for each day. Over it's lifetime of 35,000 hours, the bulb will save you $157. How long is 35,000 hours? If you leave your light on 8 hours a day, it will last about 12 years! The yearly running costs of the bulb are at $1.75. These numbers clearly justify the somewhat high selling price of $34.99. [via Engadget, images via Eternaleds]
