The majority of products from Belgium-based Ethnicraft are attractive casegoods made in solid teak, oak or walnut — but I am also in love with their leather Saloon sofa! These pieces are handsome, solid and will last as long as you will need them.
ETHNICRAFT MUST SEES:
• Burger teak chest — a very tall dresser, perfect for using vertical space for storage with a relatively small footprint
• credenzas and cabinets
• various shelves & wall units
• Saloon leather sofa

I love solid wood furniture! "...handsome, solid and will last as long as you will need them." That could describe a man, too.
"In Asia, the units in Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong mainly service full container load (FCL) customers and coordinate the different production sites, where over 20,000 pieces of furniture are manufactured each month."
It may be a Belgian company, but they're still selling Asian-made furniture...
That Saloon leather sofa is a doppelganger for the Restoration Hardware Fulham sofa. Anybody know the price of the Saloon sofa?
foodiegirl - the proportions for the Saloon are much better! The RH one looks HUGE!
Aaron - I concur. The RH one is much too big. I can't find any additional info on Ethnicraft's website.
@Aaron - the RH one IS huge. Literally, it would almost be like a twin bed xlong.
@bepsf - thanks for helping us with our homework. It's very hard to avoid furniture not made under questionable conditions that is still affordable (and this stuff is probably expensive anyway) but we should at least try. :)
In the Bay Area there is The Wooden Duck, they use as much reclaimed wood as possible its made locally and the prices are reasonable for well made simple designs like these-

@bepsf, just to clarify the teak furniture is made in Indonesia using fair trade craftsmen and FSC Certified sustainable teak farms that Ethnicraft has been working with for years. Their business provides sustenance for numerous families that would otherwise have few choices. The oak and walnut is made in Eastern Europe and the factories are part of the EU which have some of the most stringent labor laws in the world.
@dliz, As far as affordability goes, I think you may be surprised that their furniture costs little more and often less than most "put it together yourself" laminate furniture that is made in China and other parts of Asia that have questionable raw material sources and labor practices .
