Carla Sonheim calls herself a Painter of Girls and in parenthesis, mother of boys. She is married with two boys, but we found her magical prints of girls on We've had our eye on these for some time and wanted to introduce you to them properly.

A line from Carla's artist statement really captures her work: "The girls I paint are really fictional portraits inspired by the special and fleeting innocence of girlhood." We hope you enjoy these! More of these lovely prints after the jump...

Most of us grew up with fairy tales and they have an important place in our childhood lives. But the idea of Walt Disney themed rooms isn't exactly our style. However, there are the somewhat more complex, dark yet hopeful fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson. They seem less overdone and just as magical. That's why we were so excited to find Carla's rendition of a few of those. We love this childlike vision of "The Princess and the Pea".

Or how about "The Little Mermaid"?

Carla has a wide collection of prints as well as some jewlery, iron-on prints, and notecards. They truly are a joy to flip through. For only $18 for an 8 x 10 print you can frame a few of these to add a touch of that "fleeting innocence of girlhood" to your own daughter's room.

P.S. I just found out girls of all ages can email Carla to receive Valentine's Day cards on Flickr. I just got mine!
