As we have made no attempt to keep secret, terrariums are an inexhaustible delight to us. The mini landscapes provided delicious fodder for weekend daydreams when we were little, as we're sure they'd continue to do, if only our days stayed as endless as they were back then. But this particular terrarium is also literally delicious.
Basil provides the foliage for the imaginary little people, and a real puppy, turtle or frog figure gives your imagination a break to populate the tiny world. The kit comes with an apothecary jar, seeds, growing medium and instructions.

OH i love it! i've been wanting to start a terrarium, but can't figure out what to do if the plants outgrow their container?
Super cute, but I think the basil will outgrow that container. I bought one at Trader Joes for $2.99 and look how big it is! http://www.poweredbytofu.com/2009/06/09/in-season-cooking-basil/
My basil plants outgrew that size in just a week. They are one of the fastest growing, hardiest plants in my garden.
(My daughter appreciates the Little Pet Shop toy though! We bought some super super tiny animal toys at the zoo yesterday, she wants to make a small terrarium for one of them.)
