Kind of a rough and tumble fabric, burlap is usually relegated to unglamorous items like feedbags and such. However, these Etsy items show that a bit of burlap can manage to look rustic and chic in the home...

These are nice, but Ballard Design's burlap curtains are the best. I don't know why some Etsy shop doesn't make them.
I love the look of burlap - it's rich in texture and understated at the same time.
On Sunday I bought a gorgeous stool with a burlap covered cushion/seat.... I got it from Alameda's antique market and LOVE it. Also, if you go to the SF Designer Showcase house, in the entry hall there is a massive burlap curtain covering a very large staircase window.... just divine.
Burlap is not a lot of fun to sew, not to mention it kind of smells funny, which is why a lot of people don't use it, but with that being said, I have had a burlap shower curtain and cork board covered with it in the past and I currently have a big round table cloth of burlap in my "formal" living room. It has such great texture.
