This takes the cake. Out in Denver, CO, FlyingBeds.com is pushing the envelope. They have a whole line of beds that come out of the wall in various different ways using the Murphy bed mechanism. Ron, the pilot, who runs the show has one overall guiding principle that urban dwellers would love: "Give me the largest room available."...

Their Euro FlyingBeds are the main attraction for us. Designed on the Continent, these things rock. There are six sleek, modern designs with prices that run from $2,000 to $5,000 for a kingsize "Twirly." Check out the fold-down bunk beds below!

I just got my Flying Beds queen-size bed/sofa/bookcase. It has a 12 deep mattress, which I tried out in the local bedding store before giving Ron the go ahead to use it. I couldn't be happier with the quality of workmanship, the competence of the installation person (Ron, himself) and the amazement of friends and family who have seen the system closed and then opened.
I've always liked the concept of the Murphy bed and Ron has taken it to a whole new level of style, comfort and versatility. Yes, it is bolted to the floor and the wall but then, I live in earthquake country and wouldn't settle for anything less.
hmmm. the link doesn't seem to work.
What are the chances of being able to get a 4' wide murphy bed with desk?
If they can do that--my guestroom may be a worthy contender for a murphy bed.
I saw the Twirly bed at the Sunset Home last month. I didn't see it open, but the shelves and table were really attractive. I didn't know it was a Murphy bed until the guide told me.
I've thought about a Murphy bed for our living room for guests, but realized I couldn't really put a couch or furniture in front of the bed unless I moved it away everytime I had a guest. I think I've finally decided that it would be better to get a fold out couch or use an aerobed.
But, they're great for studio dwellers or people that have larger rooms or offices to put them in.
The bunk bed doesn't have a rail to prevent kiddos from falling out
i'm seriously considering something like this. i chuckle, though because my cat will become quite upset to have 'his' largest bed disappear during the day!
Dear SF Gail-
About the Murphy Bed issue, there is actually a model "The Chesterfield" http://www.morespaceplace.com/chesterframe.html that includes a sofa that DOES NOT have to be moved as it is part of the design. At More Space Place http://www.morespaceplace.com/ you can see the model and many others described at this web log.
FlyingBeds.com seems to offer the greatest variety of Murphy style beds but read carefully about their return and installation policies. On their web site the model with the sofa is called "The Lodge" http://www.flyingbeds.com/07.Sofa-Bed/Lodge.htm
Good Luck
ATTENTION NYC RESIDENTS:
If you like this concept, you MUST see Resource Furniture. They offer over 20 different models (they call them Space Saving Furniture) in a more contemporary European design. They are much sleeker, and a lot less bulky.
They have a showroom on Third Ave. (where it is exactly escapes me at the moment), but it's on the website:

I went with a friend who has a tiny room in his apartment (it's something like a 10x5 space that his ex-girlfriend used to use as a closet) and he ordered the Poppi Book, a twin fold-out bed with 3 bookshelves on top and a desk mounted on the front of the bed! He uses it like an office now, and I don't have to sleep on his crappy little sofa when I crash there anymore.
Hello everyone,
This concept is a patent by Hidden Bed a company from Uruguay. They have sued Fying bed if I am not mistaken. The website for hidden beds is: http://www.hiddenbedusa.com/
