Part of ringing in the new year in our household involved seriously overhauling our organization and cleaning systems. For two days, we did nothing but minimize, organize, and sanitize (well, it wasn't medically approved, but we had an -ize theme going, ok?). Jump below to see our first purchased improvement.
We've been meaning to replace our cheap ($2.50) PVC shower curtains for a while. We'll confess--the only reason we hadn't done it before is because we're misers. And it didn't make sense to replace it unless we needed to. The time came, and that took us to Target, where we were pleasantly surprised.
Because we have a dark bathroom, it was important that we have a curtain with some transparency. Fabric curtains, we thought, while environmentally safe, would cramp our light-loving style.
But then we found a package at Target labeled "EVA Vinyl Shower Curtain." We loved the pattern, and couldn't beat the $16.99 price tag, but we weren't quite sure what EVA was. After a quick Google on the trusty iPhone, we were pleased to find out that, as suspected, EVA vinyl is safer for the Earth.
We immediately noticed a difference--the EVA curtain had a smooth texture (rather than squeaky plastic) and let of virtually no smell (we'd fallen victim to plenty of off-gassing from our previous PVC curtains).
From what we've read here on Re-Nest, it seems like Target has stepped up their game in this department. We weren't able to find our exact curtain online, which leads us to believe that if you're in the market for a new shower curtain, you might find a more perfect match if you shop at the store.
