Eva's Bed by h20 Architects

More and more we're reading and hearing about families choosing to modify apartments after the addition of a new family member rather than get a larger place. Here's an example of one such family and the solution that h20 Architects devised to create separate space for a baby and child in one room.

The older child's bed has been moved to the upper level of this unique dwelling-within-a-dwelling while the baby's crib remains on the lower level. Nooks, crannies, and secret storage add to the playfulness of the unique space.

We're always open to new ideas for sharing space and think this one is clever. We do wonder how this will work out as the children age and grow though. See and read more here.

I love it. It's a good way to use cubic space in a room, which doesn't get used as often as I'd like, and it's kind of like an indoor playground. See, when I first looked at the first picture, I thought the kid had slid down a slide from his bed on top.

I think this could work fine for older kids. When I was in college, loft beds were hugely popular because it created space in the room, and I personally hated having my roommate's bed right next to mine.

It is a great idea, and incredibly funtional while one of the kids is a wee babe.
And yes, loft beds are an excellent option, however, that crib is essentially in the hall to the loft stairs.
Works for now, maybe not when the kids are like 12 and 15.
Having said all that, most people do not live in the same house for their entire lives, so this is a great way to buy time.

I love all of the design except for the super sharp looking edge of the desk - that's going to be murder on little heads when the younger one is old enough to toddle around or the kids start rough-housing.

It's an intriguing design, but what about when the baby starts cruising, climbing, and walking? They're going to have to put a gate on the stairs for one thing, and then it won't look so cool. The whole thing looks like an indoor jungle gym, and I doubt mom & dad are going to be supervising play at all times.

How big is that thing? It must be an enormous bedroom to fit it.

You can always build it smaller. And yes, of course, you have to round corners and put some padding here and there. Safety features don't destroy the fun factor for kids.

Interesting for the short term but difficult to share that space when #2 is older.

Anyone recognize the crib? I'm looking for something basic and white.
