- Inspiration for my palette:
- I just love color, but my husband and I decided to focus on the elements of the room instead of the walls recently. We painted most of the interior of our house white after having walls in every color for the last 10 years. It's funny how everything pops more now. I used to have a white wall phobia, but I think it's the perfect backdrop in here. The yellow sofa and wall mural were a big jumping off point, as well - everything fell into place after that.
- Colors used in my room
- Yellow (grellow?), purple, turquoise, emerald green, fuchsia, mustard, cocoa brown, orange... pretty much every color in the ROY G BIV spectrum is represented, to be honest.
- Tips for using color successfully
- My best tip is to just go with your gut - there's no hard and fast rules about what number of colors or combinations to use, and just about every rule out there can be broken. I do try to work with similar saturations of colors, though, and keep that consistent throughout the space.

Room for Color
Ohhhh I love this. I live in Clifton Park so if you ever want to get rid of that couch, let me know.
Love the couch and the pop art.
Oddly enough, I love it! Eve is so right about the similar saturations og color. Great job.
I suspect this will be my favorite entry this year. Way to embrace the full ROYGBIV spectrum!
I love this so much and I don't know why, it's the exact opposite of what I typically go for. Excellent job!!
is that Elena and Elijah?!
This room is fearless and fun. I love it when submissions actually show a bold and unexpected use of color and not just neutrals.
Oh no, so that's what happened to McDonald's Grimace! :-(
I laughed when I saw this room but in a good way.
So 70's, so fun. Kudos.
The first words out of my mouth were "Holy Crap!" :) Now that is color! Not my style but I love it! Very Funky.
@cassielynn - LOL! Now that you mention it...I think that IS Elena and Elijah from The Vampire Diaries! Haha! Now we HAVE to know...is it them?
Interesting and daring, but that purple rug would be out on the curb SO fast!

Your colors and objects are wacky and adventurous, yet I noticed an underlying traditional, conventional layout, that lends peace to your living room.
While excessive symmetry, can be dreary in "play it safe" homes (identical pairs of mirrors framing windows, and paired easy chairs flanking the fireplace) in your home, symmetry plays the "straight" character in your charming comedy of errors.
BTW you are also correct about the white walls. I painted my entire home soft shades of orange, with terra cotta floors. Then I made the mistake of using the same paint for my painting studio. It devours my paintings, and I find myself avoiding certain tubes of paint, because they look so sickly in that room.
i've always wanted a wall of trees like that!
Love the hanging shell art in the corner. I saw a blue & white version in a thrift store recently and just thought "hmm how would one get this home and avoid knots?!?!" kuddos to you! this space is a treat.
Great room...so fun. The couch is amazing!
THIS IS SO AWESOME!!!!
Fantabulous! I love the colours - I used to have a similar green & purple combo.
LOVE the entire room
I love the forest mural and that yummy purple rug!
Eve is a decorating genius! I love how fun and upbeat her style is while still being very sleek and modern.
whoah, this isn't even my style (far off from it!) but i LOVE this room.
beautifully original and with strong individual style! I would love to see the rest of the house!
The Vampire Diaries?!
Um. That couch actually came to me in a dream. So. Where can I get it?
I just love it............I love the couch & everything about this room.............I could see me and my cat sitting there...............peace
Holy 70's batman!!
FANTASTIC!
Thanks everyone! To answer some questions:
(1) Yes, that is Elijah & Elena from The Vampire Diaries. I'm not obsessed with many shows, but this one I am. Suffice to say I think they'd make an excellent couple, but I digress...
(2) The sofa is a leather Ikea Kramfors sectional that I recovered with one of Ikea's yellow slipcovers (after the chaise cushion developed a tear). Sadly the sofa is discontinued but I found this one about a year ago on Craigslist, and eBay and Amazon are good sources for the slipcovers, though it may take some hunting/waiting. And of course, there is Bemz.
(3) Yes, I love 1960s & 1970s style (all things psychedelic & bordering on kitsch) and yes, my shag rug looks like a purple Muppet (or Grimace) was sacrificed on the floor. I wouldn't have it any other way. My tongue is planted firmly in my cheek, and I like to have fun with my decor and push the envelope a bit. I'm glad that so many of you can appreciate it! ;)
Haven't I seen this before on the SaucyDwellings community? Anyway, loved it then and love it now! <3
LOVE IT!
Wow, brings me back to those lava lamp days. This is awesome! Great putting together of all the colors in a cool way.
You've got my vote! Great job at combining these colours, too.
I love the fact that the walls are white - the amazing color is all furnishings and accessories. I'm usually discouraged by color as a renter, but this definitely gives a girl ideas. I also adore the fact that the hardwood floor is mirrored in the accessories and the wall pieces are mirrored in the tone of the ceiling fan.
Uhmmm....hmmm....make no mistake...not my style..but it does seem fun...
go eve! one of the most expressive homes out there.
love it! :)
I wish I were this brave! This room is amazing.
Wow! Great use of colors! So fun, vibrant, and cozy!
Oh, Eve, this is wonderful! So groovy. I love every square inch. I must know where you got the Forest Wall Mural. I have search high and low and none have yielded such a gorgeous one.
Old enough to remember groovy, which I didn't like then and like even less now. But man, what panache with color!
Holy shit. (Excuse my french.) You have Vampire Diaries pop art. You are a fearless lady. I like!
great room..... way to take risks!
love the color of the sofa. i have looked at similar colored seating, but was never brave enough to purchase. you pulled it together nicely!
Thank you so much, Mixi! Here's the link to the mural:

Thanks everyone! And yes... sometimes it feels a little ridiculous to have Vampire Diaries pop art on the wall but... I love what I love, so. ;) At least it's not a tattoo!
This entry brought out the happy in me. Love this space
Can I ask who painted the awesome VD pop art? I've got serious envy here!
