Though not the most common choice of layout for a room, placing the bed in front of a window is a tactic that can sometimes open up the space and make better use of the available square footage.
In urban apartments, the thought of obscuring a window is nearly sacrilegious because city dwellers pay a premium to have sunlight and fresh air in their homes. When done thoughtfully, placing a bed in front of a window allows a designer to choose shades and drapes that give plenty of access to the outdoors and also function as decorative artwork above a headboard. Add nightstands and table lamps, and you've got a stunning feature wall that glows from within.

The idea of putting a bed under a window has never seemed that weird to me. Our guest bed is in front of a window, the layout just works best of us that way.
We used to have a bedroom where the only place to put the bed was under the window. I really didn't like it, and didn't sleep very well. It felt like somebody or something could come crashing through the window at any moment.
My bed is smack dab in front of the window and I love it. The sunlight streaming in in the mornings is the perfect way to wake up and likewise to curl up and take a nap in the afternoon on the warm blankets. One drawback: the window faces a very busy street and I have yet to invest in curtains...
it's not so easy when the bed cannot be centered with the window.
it ends up looking all lopsided.
i would love to do this, but then i would also lose the ability to have 2 wall lamps hanging above the bed.
My bed is in front of two of the three windows in my bedroom. It's the only spot that makes sense for the bed (allows easy access to both sides and you don't have to open the door and immediately run into the bed. I keep things airy and still allow for plenty of light with a simple metal headboard. Curtains hung high actually add to the drama and create a fabulous backdrop.
We are moving into a new apartment in a couple weeks and the master bedroom has a bay window where I was thinking of putting the bed. Any suggestions for nightstands, since the angles of the bay make it difficult?
I think beds in front of windows can definitely look nice. The only thing I worry about is it being too drafty in the colder months.
Noisy and dusty and if you have a nice view, you lose. The heat from the sun can also discolor and warp a wooden headboard.
I love my bed by the window I have always had my bed near the window. I think our bed looks perfect where it is the other option would be opposite the closet doors and I hate looking into the closets.
This a really bad feng shui practice... and for practical reasons. You shouldn't sleep with your head near a window because of the draft, noise, and light (and chi if your a stickler). I always do anything I can to avoid putting a bed anywhere directly near a window.
I'm ok with it so long as it's not blocking the ONLY window! If there are several windows (like number three... gorgeous), then I might go for it.
I've avoided this very arrangement for years because of the view thing, but placing my daybed parallel to my only window wall creates the most space in my tiny rectangular studio.
I've also never liked people being able to look in to my apt, so I was blocking the bottom half of the window with a light friendly curtain anyway.
We do it, and love it! We hung the curtains a bit wider to hide the slightly off center of our windows. Then centered the bed. It's great, especially now when you never know if its going to be cold or warm enough to open the window at night ;-)
Again, another of my favorite bedrooms (#3) returns!
In general I don't like this idea but sometimes the room dictates that you really don't have a choice in the matter. That being said, I think you guys came up with some wonderful feng shui solutions. Carry on.
