There are ceilings and then there are ceilings with exposed beams. It’s like being born with perfect eyebrows. You don’t always notice them at first, but then you realize they make the face, or in this case, the living room.
Wood beams are beautiful in their natural, knotted state, or you can paint them for a bold dose of color. And look at the amazing job someone did painting between the beams in the 4th photo.
There are even companies like Faux Wood Beams which can can install beams in a range of styles. Kind of like drawing on your own eyebrows.

I know this is about the beams but I am in love with that turquoise stove.
I *heart* exposed beams
so beautiful, and that kitchen with all those stunning windows......in heaven!
The kitchen is beautiful. We are about to buy a home with nice exposed beams, but the kitchen has to be re-done. Does anyone have a source for sturdy, open kitchen shelving? Obviously, we would have regular bottom cabinets and we're looking for a good discount cabinet source... anyone have any suggestions? I'm in Colorado, but not opposed to ordering online!
I agree, that turquoise stove is to die for, as is the matching counters too.
I love beamed ceilings too and these are nice but the tounge and grooved ones from many mid century modern homes, either natural or painted white are lovely as well.

Great line!
I've always been a fan of exposed beams. I'm looking for a house to invest in and sadly the homes in my general price range and the area are built in the 80s by tract builders...Not sure that fake beams would look very good so I guess I will have to keep dreaming.
I love exposed beams. We have them AND white washed tongue and grove ceilings. They add such a nice texture to rooms.
This is one of those weird things that can only work with certain types of furnishings and styles. I usually can only take exposed beams if the area is extremely large.
Eyebrows?? That's perfect! I read in the NY Times a few months ago that it was very chic to have no eyebrows at all. I disagree...
Rach, just make your own open shelving. That's what I did... out of pine scraps. It looks fab. Take a peek www.vacationhomerentals.com/2348
I love #5 and #10 - just beautiful. We have exposed beams in our place but they are concrete. The whole exposed structure is painted white, and I love the way, when the light hits them a certain way, the bays between the beams glow light skylights.
Bless you for showing me the love for something I haven't liked about my home before.
If you like the turquoise kitchen, it's part of a lake house rental on Pleasant Lake in the Adirondacks. We stayed there over Labor Day weekend and the rest of the house and property are equally charming. If interested go to the following link: http://web.mac.com/housedreams/LakeHouse/Welcome.html
It's the "Sunset" house.
All are great beams but I am in love with the second last ceiling beams in second row!!! I wish that would be my drawing room :D

WoW! Check out the wood beams on these links.. Love it!
I want to have reply on my comments, please!! :)
Exposed beams add such warmth to a home. We found a company online that sells faux wood beams, which are made of of a dense foam which look great! We added several eight faux wood beams to our dining room/kitchen area and they look so good! Our friends flip when we tell them they're not real. If you're interested we bought ours from http://www.owtraditons.com - we bought some exterior shutters too. Love the article! http://www.owtraditions.com
