that there was ever many color choices for Apple
laptop owners to choose from, at least not since the multi-color toilet seat shaped iBooks. But now your only option is aluminum...and more aluminum. So where does a color lover who wants to break away from the staid shell of a metallic finish turn to? A hardshell case, of course!
Speck SmartShell: Many of my coworkers' laptops sport Speck SmartShells and they look fantastic. The redesigned case
is now 30% thinner than the original design, and they're available in a bunch of new fun
neon colors like teal, bubblegum pink, and mint. The case snaps on in two pieces, keeping in consideration vent slots, alongside sporting rubberized feet for stability.
Hard Candy Hardshell Case: Unlike other brands, Hard Candy’s case snaps onto your MacBook from the
corners instead of clipping onto it. The corner bumpers add extra protection so
that it’s okay if you tend to bump the corners on the table, a good feature for the perpetually clumsy. The snap-in
corners also allow for an easier time when it comes to take your case on and
off. You don’t have to bend anything, just snap the case on.
Incase Hardshell Case: Designed for the latest Retina Display equipped MacBook Pro, Incase has long offered fashionable and functional accessories for Mac owners. Similar
to the Speck SmartShell, there are thermal vents and raised rubber feet. The
outside of the case has a hardshell exterior while still soft to touch, available in standard black, but is also available in a fun hot pink.
Incipio Feather Case: The Feather Case has gotten great reviews, owners noting the case lives up to its feather weight moniker. The case is less than 1 millimeter, making it a
truly light, yet protective against scratches and small drops. But I admit, I especially like the Feather Case because of the
great color selection.
If you’re looking for something minimalist, the
iGlaze from Moshi Monde may satiate your aesthetic preferences. Similar to the Hard Candy case,
the iGlaze has a micro-clip design making it easier to take the case on and
off. It comes in 2 separate pieces and the surface has a special coating make
it more scratch-resistant. If you miss the old black MacBooks, you can achieve
the same look with the black iGlaze.
