Look at a few of the labels attached to your clothing and you're likely going to be a little confused what all those symbols mean. Bleach, machine wash, permanent press, tumble dry, hand wash, and 33 other graphical guides are about as clear as glyphs left by primitive humans ("Do Not Wring" always looked like "No Brach's Candy" to me). Fortunately, the folks at the Soap and Detergent Association has released a fabric care chart to decipher their coding system. A larger, complete image below the jump...

Shaw's Original Fir...
OMG. THANK YOU!
yes! thank you!
This is going right above the washer and dryer, thanks!
Someone should make a laundry hamper with this printed on the bottom!
Yes, I'd love to see this rendered in some fun colors on some nice paper for hanging in the laundry room (without looking quite so utilitarian)
what kinds of garments would warrant the "Do Not Dry" symbol? considering everything from hang dry to dry in the shade is accounted for, the implication is that this item must stay wet?
Anyone know if these symbols are universal, or just used in North America?
I made one. Check it out at my site: www.laundrysymbolguide.com. I hope you like it!
