When we first spied the above picture we weren't quite sure what we were looking at. Was it a reading nook? A trampoline? Well it's neither of those, but quite possibly one of the most brilliant ideas we've seen for dressing up a drab (and typical) piece of kid-friendly furniture. Take a guess and see if you're right, after the jump!
It's a Pack N Play cover! With the help of some curtains from IKEA, an embroidery hoop, a cover and princess canopy was made. With two other little ones running around the house Flickr member happy10girl puts her Pack N Play to use quite often, even if it doesn't leave the home much. This is a great way to streamline the look of something that is usually covered in bright, garish or unattractive colors that don't really blend well with the rest of your decor!

White Enamel Flatwa...
While this looks great, I think the tent draped around the pack n play might be a safety hazard - if not for the baby, then for the older kids.
I was going to say the same thing...it seems like Ohdeedoh features "pretty" things on here a lot, without stopping to think about the safety of the idea. kudos for creativity in covering up ugly baby furniture, but its not worth risking your baby's life.
I hope Ohdeedoh thinks about this in the future before putting things up on the internet and basically encouraging parents to do it.
There's nothing unsafe about a net around a cot, as long as you take proper precautions. Clips on the bottom of the net that attach to the legs of the cot work fine, and prevent the baby from pulling the net into the cot.
Living in a subtropical climate, with a serious mosquito problem, mozzie nets are crucial in the summer months.
I think this is a nice way to hide the ugliness of portacots, and think saying Ohdeedoh advocates unsafe practices is a bit far.
Agree with PP...Use best judgment depending on your child. Personally, I LOVE this idea. So pretty, simple an cheap to replicate.
I'm with sb3891. Its fine for someone who has other children and have been child rearing at least once, but I see posts from people about to have their first child who may or may not know the dangers of suffocation, etc. Another problem is that often you don't may not know you have 'one of those kids' until there is a problem until it happens.
I'm afraid I'm a naysayer too.
The mosquito net's less of a concern for me than the cover for the cot, which will inhibit airflow. Sure, not to the point of suffocation, especially with a lightweight fabric, but you try sleeping under your bedsheet - it gets stuffy very quickly. Lack of air flow is implicated in SIDS and there's a reason Pack&Plays are sold with mesh sides.
Just throwing this out there-- Ikea sells those mosquito net rings in their baby department.
I used them over our cribs to keep the cats out during the day and pulled them aside when the babies were in there. They came down when they were old enough to get at them.
Did the exact same thing as kitschykitten. We bought an Ikea net ring to surround the crib so cats won't be tempted to jump in, but took it out as soon as daughter was old enough to start pulling at it.
I think it's a very lovely idea! I also think that if you're going to comment on someone's contribution, you should use a polite blogging etiquette. Although I may not consider this idea for my children, I'm grateful for the idea and am creative enough to make my own safety adjustments if it were an idea/style i was fond of, or not use the idea at all. Perhaps the polite thing to say would be:
"This is great idea in covering ugly baby furniture! But just in case, be sure to make it safe for babies :o)"
And leave it at that. To imply that Ohdeedoh doesn't care about babies and their safety is a gross exaggeration. We're all grown people, lets please try to remember our manners -- as you are raising the next generation and should lead by example.
Khaun78 - thanks for the lecture.
it was my pleasure, you're very welcome.
