Pets are a part of the family and sometimes that means you want to travel with your furry friend. It's not fun if they always have to sit the vacation out so luckily for us there are fabulous hotels all around the country that show the fur babies some love.
If you're looking to stay in a luxury hotel and don't want to sacrifice snuggling with your cat — you're seriously in luck. Treating pets like children isn't anything new but it's certainly becoming more widely accepted, particularly in the travel industry. Hotels are embracing and catering to those of us who travel with four legged friends.
If you stay at a Kimpton Hotel you and your pet will be greeted with a treat upon arrival as well as pet bowls, bed, dog leash and bags will already be placed in your room before check-in. W Hotels greet with treats as well as a nightly turn down service.
While some may think this is over the top, the animal lovers out there know that it's ok to spoil them from time to time. Here are some of the most fabulous hotels even pets can enjoy:
• Ace Hotel, New York City
• The Mercer, New York City
• Amangani, Jackson Hole
• The Standard, New York City
• Hotel Palomar, Philadelphia
• W Hotel, South Beach
• The Surrey, New York City
• Hotel Helix, Washington D.C.
• Jupiter Hotel, Portland
• Hotel Renew Honolulu

Oh, oh, I can't see the photos, again.
Thanks for fixing the photos!
Sofitels are also great with dogs. We were recently at the one in DC; the hotel was fantastic and a block away from the White House (and adjacent park). A perfect spot.
One thing to keep in mind regarding a pet friendly policy is whether or not they will allow your well-behaved and beloved dog to remain in the room without you. Some hotels advertise pet friendliness and then demand that you take the dog with you when you leave the room. That makes going out to dinner, for example, impossible. So always check ahead of time and if they aren't accommodating then don't recommend the hotel as pet friendly. Wondering what experiences other dog owners have had -- and would love to hear from those who've stayed in the hotels listed above.
For a more low brow experience, the Caesar's/Harrah's family of hotels has just added Pet Stay to ALL their family of hotels.

I'm so excited as we go to Tahoe/Reno all the time, and now we can bring our tiny dog.
I hope this is a permanent move to accommodate our furry friends.
I can understand why motels may have rules against dogs being left alone in the rooms. Dogs, being pack animals, may feel anxious after being left by their people in a strange room, and start vocalizing bloodcurdlingly in hopes of getting them to return. Even motels used to housing competing show dogs, which are better-trained than most companion dogs, and their handlers, often have to implement similar policies.
such a great post! we stayed at the RiverPlace Hotel in Portland OR with our dog and they were fantastic. He got a welcome gift, and the staff puppy-sat him while we attended a wedding for a few hours. We take our little guy everywhere and they were the best experience so far.
Hotel San Jose in Austin, TX is super stylish and pet friendly! Highly recommend it-- concrete floors in the rooms help take the stress level down for pet owners.
