We've got playhouses, play kitchens, play groceries, play hardware stores, and, thank goodness, now we've got a play cupcake bakery. Check out this beautifully done pretend bakery.
Bakerella featured this cute play space on her blog, even though the miniature cupcake shop was made by her friend Julie and Julie's husband. We thought it was so inspiring, though, we wanted to share it.

All the cupcakes and these frosted sugar cookies are made of felt. The details are beautiful and would provide hours of fun pretend play for lots of kids. Although now it's kind of making me want a cupcake.

I'm impressed but can envision an all out 'cupcake war' after a period of pretend proprietorship. Or, suddenly the cat walks into the room . . .
If the cat walks into the room, it could be a cupcake shop and bonus pet adoption event.
Beautiful but I cannot imagine how long that must have taken.
there are at least 80 or so felt desserts in this play place...seems like a bit of overkill...what does one do with all that after the kids grow tired of playing?
this does seem like something even the british royal family would find excessive
Gorgeous! Seriously jealous of the time these parents had to make this.
"there are at least 80 or so felt desserts in this play place...seems like a bit of overkill...what does one do with all that after the kids grow tired of playing?"
Oh, hon... what does one do with ANY toys once the kids outgrow them? Garage sales, give them away, find them a new home.
@JNS and @ec05, may I suggest you get rid of the sour grapes? No one's calling you bad parents for not doing something like this, I promise.
Wow, I would have LOVED something like that as a kid! Can't imagine the time it took to make all of that!
Goodness! What a wonderful gift for a child. Nevermind 'what' it is, but that they know their parents took the time and effort just for them. It's something they will remember all their lives!
@Pi, yes, I shouldn't be looking at this during work but I almost fell out of my chair, hilarious!
As adorable as this is, I feel it kind of robs a kid of creativity. My best friend and I used to make stores, museums, art galleries, and school rooms in our bedrooms. Figuring out how to construct the space was more than half the fun. With this bake shop it would have been cool to see this with kid-made cupcakes from random recycled bits.
@Zilla-Mama - It is a leap to assume that these kids are going to remember for the rest of their lives that their parents made 80+ felt cupcakes for them. It is possible that parents that go this overboard on a cupcake shop do so in many other areas of the kids life.
Who cares if it's excessive or took a ton of time...this is gorgeous and should be admired for it's design and artistry if for no other reason.
I agree that highly imaginative play for kids is often best but I don't think a play bakery strays that far from a play kitchen stocked with realistic utensils and food.
As someone that sews most of her child's clothes, blankets and toys I can say that there is no project more fulfilling than one that will bring your child comfort or joy. Well done!
It's beautifully done, and all that labor will certainly pay off for the child who has a monomania for playing the proprietor of a bakery.
I have to wonder how long that enthusiasm will last, however. I can foresee either the parent saying "Play with your exquisite bakery, for God's sake" or the child saying "I feel like playing dress-up or Barbies or just reading a book, but it's been a week since I played bakery, so I supposed we should indulge Mom. She did go to all that trouble, after all. I just wish she wouldn't get so tense when I want to create my own Play-Doh pastries or add some hint of my own creativity instead of just rearranging her cupcakes. This thing is so engorged with Mom's handiwork that there is scarcely any room for me to do anything. I would love to have glued on the sprinkles or painted on the daisies, for instance. But then they wouldn't be perfect. Oh well. I suppose we had better get to it. How many cupcakes would you like, ma'am?"
For those of you who didn't read the original post on Bakerella, the woman who made this did it because this is her passion. In fact, nowhere does it even mention a child. She has a thing for cupcakes and sweetshop crafts and making adorable and impossibly perfect sweet shop and Holiday decor.
That's awesome! Forget the kids -- I want to play with it!
sboyd1993 - your comment made me laugh out loud. :)
Good call!
I agree 100% about it robbing of creativity thorndale.
I'm not a fan of toys that have a specific way of playing with them...toys today are not as open ended as they should be and I think that takes away from imagination building skills.
Its very cute, but I would have done a simple 'shop' design if anything that could then be changed from bakery to pet shop to grocery store to art gallery... whatever came to mind!
I agree that no where in the original post does it mention kids, just this Wang's love of cresting.
AT added the part about it providing hours of fun for a kid.
