Facelift for Rental Kitchen - Remove Cabinet Doors?

Good Questions

Q: My husband and I just moved from an efficiency apartment to a single family home at the end of May. Unfortunately, I've been slacking in the decor department with my kitchen. It just looks... plain. We're not permitted to paint or make any changes (a tradeoff we were willing to make to find a landlord that allows four pets — two of which are pit bulls). I added an IKEA island and a rag rug, now I'm just at a loss. Should we try open shelving? I love how it looks and we can always remove the cabinet door and reattach them before we move, but would it look right on these cabinets? Coming from an efficiency, it's safe to say I don't have a ton of stuff in all those cabinets...
