Names: Faith (9), Claire (8) and Eva (5)
Location: St. Emillion, France
Favorite Family-Friendly Place To See or Thing To Do Here: St. Emilion is about an hour from Bordeaux in one of the finest wine producing areas of the world. The landscape is dotted with countless vineyards and charming chateaus. This summer my husband and I took a tour of the Franc Mayne Vineyard. With our kids.
(cont...) We all learned about the process of wine making and even went underground to the vineyard's cavernous limestone cellar. The UNESCO protected town of St. Emilion is picture perfect. The local tourist office offers a children's tour of the town's architecture and there is an opportunity to climb up the 196 steps of the Monolithic Church Tower. At the top you are rewarded with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.
Best Tip for Traveling with Kids: Take it easy. Remember, when traveling with kids, less is more. A surefire tantrum inducer is cramming way too much into too short a time period. Trust me. I have learned this lesson the hard way.
Favorite Way to Make it Feel Like Home: My family likes to stay in rental homes. This allows for day-trips, but we come to the same spot each night. It is also a great way to interact with the locals and make some new friends.
An Item you MUST Take With You While Traveling: We never travel without Trunki. It is a roller-suitcase that looks like a giant plastic animal. My five-year old can pull the suitcase along or when she is weary, we can pull her along on it. Also, Trunki is indestructible, so we can put fragile items inside.
