Today we start rolling out our judges for you to meet. A varied mix, they cover the country and come from various parts of the design world. They also have their own opinions on what makes color great in a home.
Name: Kyra & Robertson Hartnett
Location: Historic Brooklyn Heights, NY just steps from the Promenade
Website: Twenty2.net
What's your favorite color?
"We love colors in combination, so choosing one is hard. Right now, we are all about combining pale lilac, summer yellow and fresh pink - especially with silver as seen in our new Promenade wallpaper in hothouse (printed on matte silver foil)[see left]."
What's the best use of interior color you've ever seen?
"Russel Wright's home, Manitoga, in Garrison, NY. He used panels of laminate as cabinet doors in his kitchen and living area that he would change seasonally. The autumn/winter panels were a deep, warm orange and the spring/summer panels were a pure, refreshing white..."
His home sits nestled in the woods, on a lake, and is rich with natural wood and stone (including a real tree that grows up through the dining area). These pops of seasonal color change help continue the illusion of bringing outdoors in. Apparently, he was inspired by the Japanese custom of changing decor from one season to another."
Bio: We first found Kyra and Robertson when we came across their fabric and were blown away by the beautiful and subtle use of color. Since then (July, 2004), we've had the pleasure not only to get to know them at various trade shows, but also to watch their design company expand.
Beginning with to-the-trade handprinted wallpaper, grasscloth and wallpaper, they have gone on to design new lines for DesignTex as well as starting their own successful line of wall applications, dubbed WallBands, and pillows based on their designs. These latter products represent affordable, retail-ready offerings that bring their great sense of style (and color) to a greater public.
We are pleased to welcome these Brooklyn natives onto our august panel!

Give me a break. Couldn't you have just simply said Brooklyn or Brooklyn Heights?
bkem - want a good laugh? there's this video game i watched a demo of the other day - produced in germany i think - and a scene title said "Brooklyn, New York City". obviously the developers think that brooklyn is part of manhattan or something.

I can't believe how pretentious this site is becoming!! I also live "steps from the Promenade" but you wouldn't catch me dead describing it that way. And why would that impact how well they judge color?
Holly - Manhattan is not New York City. New York City is all the five boroughs put together. So technically they are correct. It doesn't sound that wierd to me.
Maybe they just like their 'hood and get inspiration from it? I think Brooklyn Heights is the cutest place in NYC. For all we know, they have some breathtaking view, and that's where Maxwell was trying to go with that.
I do like their work.
You're all insane. I think these guys will make great judges.
Brooklyn is part of NYC.
I agree, I think they make great judges too!!! I'm confused about everything else being discussed though... :)
Great contest,Love their work, have always loved Brooklyn, NYC
