A new bike store is set to open in our neighborhood soon specializing in Dutch family bikes. So far we've only been able to peer through the windows, but it has us fantasizing about breezy summer rides with child in tow. In this spirit we thought we'd round up some options in the family and carrier bike market for anyone else who'd like to either fantasize or make it a reality.
In general these bikes are quite expensive, but the fact that they're now available in the States is a positive sign that perhaps times are a'changing and prices may come down (and selection go up) in the near future. We're especially hoping that public parks and vacation venues will offer these bikes for rent as a way to introduce the concept to more people and let everyone try them out.

wow these are great but super expensive!
Chariot is a popular brand of bike carrier around where we live... http://www.chariotcarriers.com/
It also has a jogging stroller attachment and others. We love ours...wasn't super cheap, but has been one of the best things we spent money on for our kids.
I am in love with the Madsen bike. I dont think its too expensive. I think its a bike that will last for several years. I also thought about getting rid of my car...then realized i would not be able to get my grocerys home. That bike would be perfect. Wonder if they would let me ride it in the store and toss everything in the back for speed shopping?
We also love our Chariot. We have XC skied with it, biked and jogged with it. Love it!
We have a Yuba Mundo-- it fits two kids' seats! http://yubaride.com/utility-bicycles-models.html
The Taga is amazing!
