Since becoming a parent I have recognized my inauguration into a community like none I'd experienced prior: the community of parenthood. At most times, this community offers grace, advice, understanding, consolation. However, many parents have also experienced those moments on the other, darker side, when empathy and respect are suspended and judgment takes their place. Let's face it, sometimes we are judged; sometimes we judge.

Previously, my son's nursery had been used as a bit of a "catch-all" - storing anything we didn't have a place for. When my husband and I found out I was pregnant, we quickly purged the room to transform it into a fun, happy and colorful nursery for our son.

Last week I posted five IKEA hacks for the adult set. Now it's the kids turn, with equally impressive projects based on furniture from our favorite Swedish furniture giant. Some are just a coat of paint and others require a little more commitment. All are worthy.

Project:  Help us make the most of our school garden. The last three years my students have helped build our garden from the ground up. Now we have food to harvest but need a place to do it. We want to expand our garden to include a work station for food prep and a sink for cleaning our harvest.
