Who doesn't love donuts? You don't have to spend a fortune to have a great party! Sometimes you just need a little imagination. When it comes to kids, they just want something that's fun. For Jake's 2nd birthday we had a fabulous donut party that was loved by both kids and adults. 

Baggo, bags, cornhole, corn toss. Whatever you call it, you know what we mean. Cursory research indicates competing stories of origin from 14th century Germany to the Blackhawk Tribe of Illinois to the west side of Cincinnati. First off, you should know that I am addicted to Pinterest. What started as a way to organize inspiration while in I was grad school, has now become a daily occupation... 

Sometimes I feel like most people must think we are a family of hoarders. Between keeping toilet paper rolls and fabric scraps, it's true we could be seen as such. But we always find ways to make projects with our "treasures", and while we were doing our Spring cleaning, we found a lot more fabric scraps than we expected. 

Nancy was recently faced with the challenge of completing a quick and affordable bedroom makeover for a couple who is adopting three siblings. She transformed a guest room into a bright and airy girl's room in only five days, and while there are plenty of lovely touches in the space, it's her simple and cheap solution for a wall treatment that really stopped me in my tracks. 

An amazing thing happened in June 2008 — an IKEA opened two miles from my home. Oh, and my son was born. Before this a trip to IKEA meant descending into the bowels of Port Authority in Manhattan, boarding a standing room only shuttle bus to a New Jersey IKEA and then deciding whether to spend more money than you spent on purchases to arrange home delivery of your items or to limit yourself to what you could wrangle home on the bus and subway. It was a dark time. 

I could grow up here. It's low key and comfortable, without a lot of pomp and circumstance. The color palette is cool and collected, with enough texture to keep it interesting. The design above costs just over $2000.

When I was pregnant with my second son, we moved my older son out of the nursery and into his very own big boy room. I was going to leave the nursery as is, but last minute I decided to re-do the nursery.
