Check out this sweet balance between having that extra little something-something wall treatment without being overbearing. The trick? Use two paints in the same color; one glossier than the other. Click through to see another example.

Naturally, no one is going to say this is the easiest of accent wall treatments, per se. Kristen painted her patterns on each of these walls using a template she created herself. But for a handy DIYer, this could be just the trick for jazzing up a kid's room. To see more of Kristen's work visit her blog.

White Enamel Flatwa...
spammers! aaaaahhh!!!
But what i really anted to say is that you could do this with clear coat too- and then you'd be able to use with with any color if you have leftovers.
Has anyone tried this?
ah... I wish there were pics of the process...
anyone have an ID for this dresser or know of something similar? I'm looking for something exactly like it.
thanks, everyone!

smart idea! just enough contrast
I think this is really lovely. And simple.
I once did stripes with a glaze (mostly clear with a little gold metallic sheen) on top of a flat paint. Worked great--I imagine would be similar for a stencil.
I did something similar to this in my living room with a darkish grey and broad vertical stripes. It's a great effect and is very dynamic, as it's appearance changes as you move around the room and as the lighting changes through the day.
I don't know why this is listed as an idea for kids' rooms in particular. It's really elegant and understated.
Beautiful!
I wonder how this would look in our textured plaster walls? Hmm…
I love it! I think I'd like to do that to my bathroom - to mimic the shower curtain but there isn't much wall space and it might be square overkill. Maybe a dove grey with clear paint accents? Suggestions?

Fabulous.
@peachypear the first image is slightly textured walls! the house was built in the 30's, and has original plaster walls...they have tiny bumps! worked fine on them :)
