Try these relatively easy ways to incorporate the details of farmhouse style in your own kitchen at home:
• Use mason jars. Mason jars are inexpensive and pretty; use them as drinking glasses, as vases, as candle holders, or even as light fixtures. Or try this DIY and make a mason jar soap dispenser! The possibilities are endless.
• Consider a farmhouse sink. Deep, wide farmhouse sinks are as practical as they are attractive, with lots of room for washing large pots and pans.
• Vintage pots and pans. Stock up on vintage pots and pans at flea markets and hang them on an iron rack. Pots too beat up to use can be purely decorative, but durable materials like copper and cast-iron should still be functional, even if the pots are old.
• Vintage (or vintage-style) appliances. Vintage stoves are often available on craigslist; just be sure to incorporate the cost of hiring a good repairman to give the stove a tune-up. For refrigerators, it's best to go with a new model that looks old (for efficiency's sake); check out some sources for retro-style fridges here.
• Consider salvaged hardware. Salvaged hardware can give a new kitchen that nice worn-in farmhouse look. If your style is super-eclectic, you might even try a mismatched set.
• Keep fresh flowers around. Nothing creates the relaxed, cheerful feel of a farmhouse kitchen more than a loose bunch of fresh flowers. Choose a simple container, like a galvanized steel pail or a watering can, to complete the look.

i really like these! Much more my style than the modern or the HGTV obsessions with granite, glass tile, and tons of cabinets
Great ideas! Also, limit the upper cabinets as much as possible. It's so much nicer (and more farmhousey) to have a big pantry with open shelving than to be closed in by cabinetry.
Is that a wine rack next to the stove? Bad idea.
On the other hand, I LOVELOVELOVE the SMEG fridges!
SMEG-lust
I love this so much it hurts.
Love the first kitchen (but wine next to the stove??!!)
Love the look, so much more personality than the sterile, contemporary kitchens.
Ooooh Nooooo! All that wine right there by the stove. (love the sink though.)
I love these!
I have to smile whenever I see a SMEG. But then the smile goes away when I realize that I don't have a SMEG.
I agree there's a lot more style here than in HGTV-esque "designed" kitchens with walls of cabinets and sparkling backsplashes. Or maybe this is just more MY style. :) #2 is just beautiful. One day I'll have a kitchen like this...open cabinets, rustic wood and exposed beans...*sigh*
We recently renovated our bungalow kitchen to more of a farmhouse feel. I definitely agree that the original cast iron farm style sink and the vintage (inspired) hardware goes a long way to accomplish that look. I would also suggest that older light fixtures (like a schoolhouse fixture) can really make or break the look. You can check out our "farmhouse" kitchen here: http://bungalowbungahigh.wordpress.com/2010/02/13/the-kitchen-after/
love the 1st and 4th image. while I love many elements of a farmhouse kitchen (big sink, wide-planked wood floors, butcher block, mason jars, etc), I'm not a fan of the whole look. I like to mix those parts in with something a bit more sleek- marble countertops, stainless, sleek cabinets, etc.
thanks for posting these, they're great!

Lovely kitchen, bungahigh!
Here a Smeg, there a Smeg, everywhere a SmegSmeg...
I love all those ideas, and have incorporated some of them into my kitchen remodel. My cabinets are white, there's an open shelf also white, loaded with cookbooks with an iron potrack with vintage cookware. I left the original fake tile floor that is very similar to the one in the photo.
The wall color is very refreshing! The only thing the kitchen needs is a pretty tea towel like this one:
