Diving into a Terry John Woods' book is akin to entering into really great gallery or boutique - its an all encompassing visual experience and an immersion into a singular look that's the result of a strong perspective and eye for detail. Like his books that have come before, New Farmhouse Style and Summer House, the latest makes this definitely-a-city-girl pine a little for the (country) road not taken...
Three Things to Love About this Book:
1. The big, beautiful images. The oversized, nearly square (approx. 10x11) tome has over 150 photos. From closeups (to better show off the rustic patina) to room shots (the kitchens are gorgeous), you truly get a sense of the textures, scale and finishes in these farmhouses.
2. The palette of colors used throughout these homes is simple, beautiful, classic and great inspiration for homes of any style. The colors that predominate the rooms are subtle but rich shifting tones of white - like a basket of beautiful multicolored eggs in ranges of pale blues and buttery yellows (Remember those amazing ones that Martha likes?)
3. Smart styling ideas abound. Great artwork advice, simple but elegant ideas for floral design and tabletop, quirky, understated displays and vignettes, and even a chapter on holiday decorating turn looking through this book this into an "ideas worth stealing" session, too. I guarantee you'll be looking closer at funky old items at the flea market after perusing this book.
