Alana Hearn divides her time between New York City, where she works for a commercial production company and a creative agency, and Newport, Rhode Island, the beautiful beach town where she grew up. Whether she's dressed in a simple summer caftan or a full-length evening gown, she always looks polished. After getting a peek at some of her favorite clothing and accessories while photographing her bright, fun-filled home, I thought we should ask her to share some thoughts on style.

Three words that describe your style: versatile, fun, packable

Your very favorite outfit: Joe and I stumbled upon a quirky vintage store in Florence when we were traveling. The owners of the tiny shop were serving champagne and I walked out with a handmade '70s-inspired, cream-colored dress with a crocheted neckline and a cocktail ring. Wearing them both always makes me smile.

Describe your typical work "uniform": Our work place is pretty casual but I tend to wear a lot of dresses—mostly because I don’t have to worry about coordinating anything! I also love a good jumpsuit!

Three items in your closet that you couldn't live without: My summer caftans (I live in them when it gets warm), my black leather Rag & Bone boots, and my Muubaa black leather jacket.

Best bargain find ever: I rarely, if ever, buy anything full price. My mom raised my siblings and me on the bloodsport of bargain shopping at Filene’s Basement. When I moved to New York, my go-tos became Century21, Loehmann’s, and sample sales throughout the city. There is a great consignment store in my neighborhood called Second Time Around where I found an incredible Ralph Lauren dress which had been worn by Chanel Iman. I managed to squeeze into it and wore it to my rehearsal dinner.

The #1 item from your fashion wish list: There isn’t anything that I am currently coveting for my day-to-day wardrobe, but my friends and I dressed as superheroes (of our own design) for Halloween—my favorite day of the year—and while I was looking for costume inspiration, I found myself lusting after Pam Hogg’s wild jumpsuits.

Most fashionable friend and why: My mom; She was always so uniquely pulled together growing up. I have no idea how she found the time with four kids and a full-time job. One of my favorite photos is of her coaching my sister’s soccer team in a tweed sweater, newsboy cap, and white collared shirt with a bow tie.

What is your go-to jewelry look? During the day I keep it simple. I love Kris Nations’ laser cut silver jewelry, but I also really like statement pieces. I wear a Pamela Love “Spring Ring” most days. For night, I am obsessed with Alexis Bittar, and I love big rings with huge stones.

Jumpsuits/rompers, like this one by Club Monaco, are a favorite look for Alana.

The TV or movie character's wardrobe you'd steal in a minute: Joe and I like to watch old movies on Sunday nights. We watched Bringing Up Baby (1938) with Katherine Hepburn a few months ago, and every time she was on screen, I ooh’ed and aah’ed over her outfits. It was shortly after that that I tried on Sylvio’s green dress, above, which felt to me like something Katherine Hepburn would have worn.

Best fashion advice: The most beautiful thing you can wear is a smile.

FAVORITES:

Local shops: NYC: I love Ted Baker (beginning to border on obsession), Club Monaco for staple items, and Pinkyotto.

Rhode Island: I love the jewelry store MUSE in Warren. (Joe introduced me to it. He has good taste!)

Online shop: THE OUTNET

Best jeans: Paige

Makeup: I’m all over the place with makeup, but have been trying to focus on non-toxic (EWG-approved) products. I really like RMS Beauty, Alima Pure, and Beautycounter.

Skincare: Beautycounter

Signature scent: I tortured the saleswoman at Santa Maria Novella when I was looking for my wedding scent there. I think I pestered her for 15+ samples. Their scents are gorgeous.

Coolest sneakers: Toss-up between my high-top Vans and Adidas superstars

Go-to source for style inspiration: I’m a fan of blogger Atlantic-Pacific.

Thanks, Alana!
