We've all seen bunk beds before, but what about a bus bed? I suddenly feel as though my childhood was missing something not having had one of these bad boys to call my own. It's part club house, part bed and 100% awesome!
We ran across this super awesome diy built-bed project over at Instructables. It was made by user Uptonb and we have to say, job well done!
This could be one of the coolest project we've seen in a long time and even if you're not in need of a VW Van in your little one's bedroom it would still make a pretty awesome fort outside, or even a focal point in a play room. Uptonb has provided instructions so you can make your own if you're as jazzed as we are.

My 4-year old would LOVE this!!!!!!!
Scooby doo, where are you?!
I thought that was a real van at first. If it were a real Vanagon, it would be super extra awesome (as long as there was some easy way to remove the mattress for actual driving and then put it back when the destination was reached).
My dad did something similar to this for my older brother when we were little -- except it was a bright red fire truck. There was space for two beds, though the bottom was used more as a play zone. I was always SO JEALOUS of that one.
ahhhhhh! this is SO SO awesome!
LISA,
4 year old? I would love this.
The only thing is, they probably should have built this inside.
Lisa, I'm 47 and *I* want it!
OMG! my nightmare!
My mom had this same one, (a REAL VW Bus ) in orange & white, she loved it!!
She used to pick me up from school, 9th grade (first year at a new high school) at the front entrance, in front of EVERYONE!!!
Maybe you can tell i'm still traumatized!?
Very nice. Saw something similar the other day while shopping for a bed for my son http://www.vac.ch/enfants/enfants-chambre-d-enfant/lit-superpose.html but your version is much nicer :-)
My 30 year old brother had something very similar custom made--it was a van shape, but different colors. He slept up top. The front seat area was a desk, with bookshelves lining the back of the space. The main van compartment in the back was closet space--four separate storage areas for clothes and shoes. Dear Brother is in the military, so the thing was designed to be taken apart easily and put back together in about half an hour.
Dear Brother says he has never had so many married women stopping by his place asking to see his bed. His buddies all want one.
Awesome! My nephew would love this!
xarcady - ha!
Replace VW with Chevy Step and Put the mattress inside behind the driver's seat, and that was my home for a couple years.
