I can’t name one friend who is a big game hunter — yet, more and more and more taxidermy seems to be popping up in homes.
Flying or four-legged, stuffed critters add a rustic, woodsy charm. But for those of us who’d like to be a little more PETA friendly with our home design, here are a few great options you won’t feel so bad about.
• Mounted tiger seen in artist Adam Wallacavage’s home at The Selby.
• Carved Wood Duck wall mountings from GI Designs - $195
• Superordinate Antler Lamps from Jason Miller Studios.
• Moose - part of The Big Game collection by Vlaemsch.
• Squirrel Pico pillow by AREAWARE - $24

I've always been fascinated by taxidermy but on a thrift store budget, have never found a piece I'd be willing to bring home and display. Now, a stuffed animal head on display is both whimscal and inoffensive. I wonder if I could make that ?
You sure could. Students at my school have done that (we have had a collection of soft toy taxidermy on the hallway walls for at least a year), so why shouldn't you be able to?
I love that tiger head! I'd try to make it myself, but I don't think I could find a stuffed animal tiger with as cool a face as that one has.

Haha that dinosaur one is actually pretty cool... but to be honest i've always hated taxidermy even when it's incredibly fake like this. I'm an animal lover. I eat meat and I'm okay with hunting... but displaying a dead animal head on the wall always seemed gross to me... even when it's a stuffed animal. Definitely not my style...
sarah palin should read this.
I love love that first picture, so cute! Though I don't know if it's very adult-like. I'm all for "original" spaces but that just doesn't seem suitable for a common space. Kids room though? Absolutely!
Even creepier than the real thing....

my God, your flowery stag is terrific! And terrific craftsmanship, too. This is better than all the pieces in this article put together! Bravo.
My step-dad was a taxidermist, and he started making those dinosaur heads right as Jurassic Park came out. They were really popular, but somehow mine got lost in a move.
At an antique store near us they had an old stuffed Bison head, adorned with a giant golden crown. If I had the cash I would buy it in a heart beat.
