I may not eat eggs, but I love their shape, their delicate strength, their air of potential. With spring in the air (we all hope), I want to surround myself with darling nests, sweet springy crafts, and beautiful eggs in irresistible blues and browns…
- I have no idea how this happened, but the whole time I was putting this little collection together I was thinking to myself, "This is great! All the beauty of eggs but no actual eggs involved!" — except for my very favorite project, the show-stopping wonder of a message-in-an-egg. Created for Poppytalk Handmade by Present & Correct, the hidden message egg is pure spring magic. If you've been waiting all winter to tell somebody something special, now's your chance.
- The butterfly eggs from Martha Stewart would make an amazing centerpiece on a spring table, perhaps filled with chocolates for a surprise dessert? Or a larger one could be used every year instead of an Easter basket.
- I'll never have occasion to use egg cups for their intended use, but aren't they pretty? Using them for tiny succulent planters is one excellent repurposing- the full how-to is at Design*Sponge.
- Now, the Martha Stewart team has gone a all-out with this woodland-glamour egg, in which a real eggshell is not only blown-out and painted but cut and hinged. Can you imagine? I say, buy a pre-made egg box and save your energy for making it look fabulous. That acorn cap handle is pretty amazing. I like to imagine this box would be used every year to present a new little piece of spring jewelry to a very lucky recipient...
- Finally, if you're running out of time for spring crafting, these farmer's market eggs just require a little arranging, placement in a bowl or basket. Handmade, hand-painted, and hardwood, they could definitely become treasured spring heirlooms.
