There's just something about a textured blue wall that makes us weak in the knees. The boldness that would be provided by a solid paint application is softened by the natural texture of grasscloth, further enriching the moody yet elegant statement that the tones can make.
Blue grasscloth wallpaper can become a neutral setting against which bolder choices will pop. It soothes the intensity of whatever else is happening in a design. For example, graphic black, white, and yellow accessories would have an ultra-modern feel against a plain white wall. The soft blue grasscloth in that room stands up to the power of the other selections and brings it all back down to earth. These qualities are especially noticeable between a contrasting trim and floor.

love grasscloth in colors...gorgeous!
I am planning to take down some grasscloth that the previous owners had up in our entry hall. The color is faded and there are big discolorations wherever they had hung their pictures.
Anyone have advice on how to remove it? Is hot water and patience enough to do the job?
wow, those images are beautiful.
DC_Mom,
I have successfully painted grasscloth, you may want to consider this option.
@DC_Mom: get yourself to a Lowes and pick up one of
these and this.
Those 2 things cost around $60 total and work like a charm! Have towels handy though! I'm still working my way through our whole house, they had grasscloth everywhere which I love but only in a nice color. This was a 70's cream/mustard/brown atrocity.
also, image #3 = LOVE!!!
@jess13 -- if you love grasscloth, then you should paint it rather than taking it down.
Really lovely! Unfortunately, kitties love grass cloth, too!
Oh my god. My whole bedroom is about to change! So awesome!
@Gaidig: well, it's a little late for that but thanks for the idea. I'd always lived by the rule that you never paint wallpaper, especially old wallpaper where you don't know what type of glue they used and how it would react to water/oil based paint.
AT had a write up a long time ago about how to seal and paint wall paper, anyone interested should do a search.
DC Mom - I managed to remove some that was in bad shape and in a bad room for it (the bathroom), and I used the same methodology as getting rid of wallpaper. Steam helps. But Patience is the best solution.
I agree that #3 is wonderful. Anyone know where to source a similiar screen. Also-- what is a good source for grasscloth?
I've had #3 picture saved on my Flickr since it was published in Domino.
The wallcovering is from here I had sourced it a couple of years ago-

I LOVE THIS LOOK! i have a friend who did this in black in his kitchen, it was so sexy!
FAB
DC mom - I second Jude252's thought. When we flipped my parents' house last year, there was grasscloth in the living and dining rooms, discolored in places. The dining surface was in fine shape and we just painted over that. Our painter skim-coated right over the grasscloth in the living room, because there were huge cracks in one wall. They both looked good, but I esp'ly loved the painted texture in the dining.
You guys are killing me. There is a special place in hell for people who paint over wallpaper. That is the kind of crap espoused only by people who have never been on the losing end (understatement of the millennium) of the proposition.
I Love This It Is Beautiful!
The textural nuances of the seagrass look beautiful in these grey/green/blue colours.
Fabulous!
