Feeling the Pull: Kitchen Cabinet Hardware

Reader Survey

Watching reruns on TV a few nights ago, I couldn't help but ogle (again) the kitchen belonging to the character played by Mikhail Baryshnikov on Sex and the City. The whole apartment is pretty amazing, but I noticed, of all things, how much I liked the wide horizontal pulls on the upper kitchen cabinets.

The pulls, which are very similar to the ones in the first image, aren't too easy to see in the photo of the SATC kitchen (Image 3). Seen onscreen, set designer Ondine Karady's hardware choice appealed to me visually and, given that I'm barely 5'2", practically.

Knobs and pulls are the kind of detail that can single-handedly update and upgrade a kitchen. I think I am partial to horizontal rather than vertical pulls, but I've also found myself eying the knobs at Anthropologie and wondering where I could use them. I also like the lack of hardware created by cutting holes in the top cabinet's glass fronts in the the beach house in Image 2.
