Last month we brought you an event taking place in Austin that combined both helping the community and recycling. Called the Fence Me In Project, the aim of the project was to gather the community to help build a fence around the local Windsor Park Community Garden, but in a totally unique and creative way. On May 30th, from 9am to 1pm you can join other volunteers in helping fill simple wood frames with creative scrap materials to create a fence around the garden. With lots of volunteers and construction days, the posts were set and frames built, but the fence won't be completed until the frames are filled!
Volunteers will be provided with a 5'x3-1/2' frame made out of 2x2s. You bring your own material to fill in a frame, and just about anything goes! Food and refreshments will be provided and prizes for the most creative use of materials will be awarded! And if you can't make it to this event but still want to participate, contact event coordinators to set a frame aside to be completed at home!
This event is a great and creative way to give back to the community while recycling material you may have had lying around the house! Check out the Real Community Austin page for more information.
