We know it's only Thursday, but we're already crowning this the coolest thing of the week. The entire circus-inspired room is delightful and we're especially gaga for the ferris wheel toy storage.
The room was put together by Kansas City-based photo stylist Kate Dixon and was commissioned as part of the 41st Symphony Designer Showhouse Tour in Kansas City (running through May 16th). We're accustomed to seeing a circus theme in nurseries, but love this more grown up version for a boy. Kate tells us more:
I wanted it to be a whimsical room where fun and functionality meet. That's why me and my crew made a giant 7ft tall spinning 'ferris wheel' toy storage unit. I made rugs out of duckcloth and stitched them together to give a patchwork effect, and painted over a photo of my son turning him into the ultimate ringmaster of the room. We took old pallets and created fun built in furniture, and used some great artistic friends of mine from SOWN to do pillows, Jeff Shumway to create amazing circus illustrations, and so much more.
Amazing, Kate - thank you! Readers, you can find Kate at her blog Dixon Style as well as her company Artistic Living Spaces.

Shaw's Original Fir...
looooooove it
Oh my GAWWWW. I've been trying for ages in my mind to work out a ferris wheel book shelf. There was one in the library where I went as a kid, and I thought it was totally magical. This is too awesome. Really beautifully done.
Wow, that ferris wheel is seriously awesome. So much fun to be had!
That is amazing....
Head over heels in love the ferris wheel toy storage. And it actually spins! There’s a video on her blog: http://dixonstyle.blogspot.com/2010/03/it-lives.html . I love the old-timey dreaminess of this room. Even without the ferris wheel, it would be a space any child would love.
The ferris wheel is about the coolest storage idea I've ever seen in my life. This room doesn't just need a mention, it need an award - wow!!
Delightful describes this room just right. What child (boy or girl), wouldn't love to call this room their own?
I'm speechless. This is awesome. And the bed - what kind of base is this? These are always the beds I find I like the most.
Help! I love that ferris wheel too much! And I love matsutake's idea of a ferris wheel bookshelf. Either way my kids would freak for something like that. Do you think if we all pester her or ask really really nicely, she'd provide any DIY instructions?
Look at her web site, she talks about the process and she shows that the wheel part of the ferris wheel is actually a cable spool.
It's probably too big of a DIY project for me, but I wish there was something on a smaller scale. My kid would go nuts for a ferris wheel type contraption to put things in.
WOW! This room is awesome!
This is the coolest room ever! I'm curious to see more/know more about the pallets used to make furniture. I'd love to see some DIY ideas for using pallets, as Lumber Liquidators leaves them outside for anyone to take and use, and I'm dying to find a use/project for them.
I saw this over at Desire to Inspire, and they opened with a comment about not loving theme rooms generally, but felt this one works. I still find it too themed myself. But there are elements that could be salvaged if the theme ever became too annoying and stale.
I'm with emilysontag, I would love to see more info or DIY ideas for using pallets for furniture. This room is too adorable. Love the patchwork "rug."
WANT. Any kid would be lucky to have this AMAZING room.
