We love pet tech. Whether it's to help us locate our pets or translate their barks, technology to improve the lives of our pets is always something we are on the lookout for. We were excited when we spotted this retractable dog leash which combines several of the things we love here at Unplggd, green technology, LED lights, and of course pet tech.
It's quite common in our home to search for a flashlight while holding onto a leash attached to a very eager dog. Often we end up leaving our home without a light due to our dog's pressing needs. This leash solves the problem of the flashlight search by combining a light into the leash. What makes this leash unique is that it features a small generator inside that charges a set of rechargeable batteries which then power a set of LED lights. Hooray for an end to scrambling for a working flashlight!
This device is still in the concept phase, Fido Fashions say they are 6 months from completing a trade show prototype. For more information, check out Fido Fashions.
We would love to own this leash and hope it goes into production soon. What do you think? Would you purchase this leash?

Anything longer than a 6 foot leash is a nuisance for other people walking dogs. Everyone gets tied up in that 20 foot strangle cord.
I couldn't agree with you more Denver80203. Those things tend to put you in horrible and very dangerous situation sooner or later. Especially since they break easily and are notoriusly hard to hold on to.
agree. and oh look, another AT post on something that isn't available yet.
Say something upfront, instead of always the last sentence, "this is only a concept."
I love my retractable leash. I keep the dog reined in while walking past people, but let it loose to let him run a bit. The problem isn't the leash, it is inconsiderate owners...

Completely right. For those of us who have a sparsely populated walking trail, a Flippy Lead is a god send. It let's your dog wander when you're alone, but lets you rein him in when another dog approaches. And, since my dog is 120 lbs of eager curiousness, they make a super strong version that is highly resistant to wear. "Flippy" was the orginal and in my mind, still the best, although some of the competitors have made some improvements with handle positions and cord locks, etc.
