There are fewer joys than getting in on the beginning of a project — especially in the internet age when it seems that we catch things as they're wrapping up. 50 artists from around the country have been asked to illustrate their state motto and the fun is just getting started!
This summer in New York the Fifty and Fifty project will be hosting a gallery show featuring a large print release of some seriously amazing works of art. Dan Cassaro, a designer and animator out of Brooklyn, has put together a curated group of artists that have set out to illustrate all 50 state mottos by releasing one new piece each week day.
Although you'll have to wait a few months to be able to purchase prints for your pad, by the looks of the states already released, it will be well worth the wait. Since each print is done in the same color-way, you could hang all the states you've lived in together for an oversized art look without having to track down truly oversized artwork. We wanted to tell you now in case you're like us and require one from every state you've lived in and need a little time to save up your pennies!
You can check out a list of the artists on deck for the states still to come or keep an eye on the site daily for the latest releases! We'll make sure to let you know when prints go on sale, though we're calling dibs on a few states first!

Shaw's Original Fir...
The state motto of Massachusetts should be "Drive at Your Own Risk"
I like Florida's but alas, I don't live in Florida.
the artist who did mississippi's isnt from MS! he only went to college there...
I live in DC :(
These are awesome. I'd read about about this project a while back and have been eagerly awaiting the results!
The MA one is my favorite so far. Sadly, the NY one is kind of boring...
My spouse was born in Michigan:
"If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you."
I believe he would smirk at that. I likey.
I'm a Canuck, but these are awesome.
I'd feel better about it if they had the California motto as Eureka! (I have found it) instead of the other way around.
There's not a Kansan alive who uses the English translation of our state motto. Ad Astra Per Aspera all the way, baby!
As a New Yorker, I'm a little disappointed. But I think the project is awesome.
most of the artists don't currently live in the state they represent...kind of a bummer.
Hmm. Out of five, two mention weaponry. Nice and high minded. But then, if you've ever been to a Bruins game you'd know that centuries after that little Revolutionary dustup w/ the Brits Mass. (my home state) still likes to get its brawl on.
The artist working on GA is originally from Vienna, grew up in South Fla-ri-duh, and lives in NYC. I bet she knows Georgia real well.
I've always loved North Carolina's: Esse quam videri. To be, rather than to seem.
I also love Colbert's ironic inversion.
The artists who did Vermont live in Oregon? Looking at the result, I wonder how much time they've actually spent in Vermont. BLAH.
