Is there anything worse than someone looking over your shoulder without you realizing it? As someone who hates when people peering uninvited while I'm working, I've got an affinity for Mathieu Servais' Efi privacy system which not only isolates the user from others, but also intruding digital diversions...
Efi is the result of an important user study, where I became conscious of today's troubles that employees are dealing with in "open space" offices. It consists of a connected space divider which enables office employees to isolate themselves when they need to focus. Lowering down the ring enables them to isolate from physical noise (visual and phonic) but also from digital noise by filtering data receipt (e-mails, phone calls, instant messages...). Efi's system is made up of two elements : an online service where the employee will define his data filtering parameters and an adjustable space divider which works as a tangible interface with the online service.

White Enamel Four-P...
Kind of like Maxwell Smart's "Cone of Silence?"
The concept is great, but man just looking at that picture gives me the heebies (I am slightly claustrophobic too though).
As a former draftsman (er, woman), I never minded people watching me work, but I was skittish about them bumping my table while I was inking with a 0000 pen and #60 Leroy guide. (yes, I am that old). I'd like that design as a light fixture though, to hang over my drafting table :)
Yeah, a "cone of silence" for hipsters
i need this.
Looks nice, kind of like a giant lamp shade though. It would be better if it featured some sort of 'global lighting' to keep the workspace very bright. Also, I think I would get kind of claustrophobic under there.
So this is just a cone? Does it light? Does it have a monitor on the cone wall? Are we going back to the cubicle?
Why would someone mind any coworkers watching you work, unless of course you are doing something personal at employer's expense?
