On the one hand, it was inevitable. On the other hand, what took you so long, Ikea? They've finally added a rocking base option to the ubiquitous Poäng chair. Will this be the holy grail for parents on a quest for an inexpensive nursery rocker or be a disappointment like the Lillberg rocker?
Curiously, the rocking version of the Poäng is not listed yet online but has been available in some stores for a few months. We tracked down a photo on Flickr by Gene who snapped it in his Atlanta Ikea (where only birch was in stock)....

For some reason, I don't like the regular Poang, but I really liked this chair when I saw it in my local store and got it (I like rocking chairs because they allow me to burn off nervous energy while sitting). It's probably not going to work for nursing mothers as the back is very reclined (it's just the regular Poang chair with a different base). But it is a comfortable chair and good for just reading, etc.
Ugh, I hate the Poang chair. I cringe everytime I see one on Craigslist. I can't figure out why they're so popular - price? comfort? fugliness?
I'm with dhm. I don't get it. And Craigslist is swarming with them.
My ex had a poang. It was inexpensive and comfortable.
I saw the rocker at Ikea Woodbridge a few weeks ago. I actually prefer the original poang over the rocker.
The original Poang has a little bounce to it already, no? Not a rocker, but just a little gentle "give"--or maybe I really need to tighten every darn hexnut...
