It was only a matter of time before an eco plumbing association cropped up and that time is now. Within the past year 3,000 plumbers have become certified under the auspices of GreenPlumbers USA.
According to the GreenPlumbers website, "A Licensed GreenPlumber® can assist you in determining the most efficient products and appliances for your current and future needs — helping you to develop a staged plan for reducing your water and energy costs while protecting the resources of the planet. GreenPlumbers® have been trained in home water-efficient products, heating and cooling appliances, hot water heating, solar hot water, water conservation and water sustainability, and other emerging products and technologies."
A GreenPlumber can also conduct a 50 point water audit of your home and educate you about rebates for water-saving technologies.
When we did a search for a plumber in our area, we only found one plumber in Lynn, Massachusetts. So for now, until the network grows, you may want to weigh the energy differential between hiring a plumber who has to travel further to reach you versus your neighborhood plumber. But be sure to at least tell your local plumber about GreenPlumbers USA to let him or her know that you're interested in an eco approach to plumbing.
