Q: I'm working on my new bedroom (larger photos below) and wanted to get some feedback from the talented readers on Apartment Therapy. I'm looking for suggestions in regards to wall color and any other additional touches. So far I have the basic elements of the room: the furniture, window curtains, and bedding. I definitely need more lighting since I do a lot of studying in the room. I also want to add details that will bring the whole room together.
In terms of the walls: I can't stand white. I was thinking of doing Behr's Dark Granite but wasn't sure if it would make the room too dark so maybe an accent wall and then the rest a lighter gray? I love love love color but don't want to go overboard. Another idea would be some funky printed wallpaper. Remarks?

can you paint the door? taking your likes, i was thinking it would be really cool to paint the door and window frame with the accent colour you use on your accent wall. maybe a deep blue? and then the remainder a complementary grey... alternatively, if you want to do something different and brighten the room up (b/c deep blue grey will make the room feel smaller albeit cozier)... maybe use taupe as the base colour and then a brighter colour for the accent... orange?
sounds like a fun project!
You get tons of light in your space - so going with a dark wall color all the way around isnt' going to make your room feel like a dungeon...
...it would even help make your wooden door look nicer too.
Rather than do a grey I might suggest a deep, rich blue - Have a look at yesterday's AT post about mirrors to see what I mean, as the dark blue made the wooden furniture (brown) and gold mirror frames really stand out and appear much richer on the whole.
Don't do an accent wall tho - If you're gonna do it, it's worth doing all the way.
I was thinking deep coral pink walls, glossy white doors and trim it would be fun with the red bedding.
colors-
red, brown orange and white
Get rid of the clutter
Paint that brown cabinet white, get white bins for the open shelves
hang the mirror
add white lacquer boxes and trays and white lamp for the cabinet you can do this very inexpensively.
No black frames, get some fun prints or wrapping paper and put in white frames
some cushions with red, pink, green or orange in them for the bed
clean up the desk area again small white boxes

the link to the colors did not work..sorry for the random accessories just showing them for color ideas
coral, pink, red, orange, and brown you get the drift.
good luck
I agree with bepsf about the blue--it might really be lovely. But your bedding and window treatments seem to be giving your room a pink cast. Make sure whatever color you choose isn't affected by the reflection of light against those deep reds.
one more vote for the blue (I just painted my living room and love it) and little touches of gold or gold-ish yellow can do magic. but i also like crisp white accessories in combination with royal blue. I fact I would use white lamps in the style of the habitat lamp linked by b77*, white curtains and desk accessories and add some golden frames or other small touches. I would also put some deep fuchsia cushions on the bed.
Jenny- can you say where you got your desk?
I vote for "all the way," too. I have an accent wall of dark red in my bedroom, and it's top of my to-do list to make it all red. To "contemporary" feeling with just the one wall, and not enough "cozy."
Good luck!
I like the idea of doing a dark brown all the way. That would make your furniture and curtains standout and ground the bright red bedding and all the white accents you have in the room. Since you do have quite a few furniture pieces in your room, i wouldnt recommend doing a printed wall paper (might make the room look too busy)
As for the lighting, maybe you can try a tall modern floor lamp on the right side of your desk and a desk lamp.
