Name: Finn (13 Months)
Location: St. Lous, Missouri
Our newly constructed nursery was painted for about 30 seconds before I decided we needed a feature wall. The issue? This room is SMALL. I couldn't do something crazy that I'd be sick of in a few months.
A while back I'd fallen in love with a sharpie paint pen wall and realized this was my chance to give it a try. I picked a pattern, did some mock ups on my computer, a lot of measuring and test spots, then started drawing lines. The room colors were gray, yellow, and pops of blue so I kept the main pattern white with a few yellow lines as accents.
The end result is a show stopper, people are immediately drawn to the wall and it's awesome look. My favorite part about the design is that it doesn't overpower the room. The lines are just thick enough to be seen without taking over.
We finished with local and homemade artwork in thrifted frames, simple shelves and baskets, wood and metal accents, and a big pop of yellow on the dresser turned changing table.
Most of the artwork is homemade or local, the furniture sparse. The dresser was a boring piece I picked up cheap at a thrift shop so I felt comfortable hacking off the legs, replacing them with some mid century angle-mounted deals, and painting it bright yellow. Baskets hang from metal pipes, shelves contain books and artwork in thrifted frames. Antlers hang above the closet door. The mobile is DIY painted clay. The orange chair was used in our first son's nursery and we couldn't bare to replace it, the pouf is new and the perfect size. The triangle nightstand with wood legs was an impulse item I purchased and am grateful every day I did.
