Of all the amazing furniture and art featured in Jen & Michael's Modern Retreat, we love that Jen's favorite piece is an affordable hanging chair from IKEA. These versions may not share the IKEA chair's price tag, but they do share its stylish, modern take on the 70s classic.
1. Swing Chair from the Maia Collection by Patricia Urquiola for Spanish manufacturer Kettal.
2. "Kata" rattan hanging chair by Enzo Berti for Ferlea available through Modern Living.
3. & 4. Sculptural copper and stainless steel swing chairs from UK-based Myburgh Designs.
5. Nest-like rattan hanging chair from PE-O Modern Home.

Yikes! Something about those chairs, with exception to the first give me an overwhelming feeling of claustrophobia. Maybe it's because I am claustrophobic but I feel like you could have a difficult time climbing out, all the while swinging in some frenzied panic.

That third one is stunning.
But it's a real shame to miss the one from Pier 1. Unfortunately, as the website has no picture, here's a link to the picture of mine: http://www.flickr.com/photos/frecklestars/4500939474/ It was $350ish with the chair and stand and is completely awesome. Just FYI.
I love #4, but I think in my tropical hot climate I could actually die if I fell asleep in it in the summer.
I think I've wanted a hanging chair (preferably an oval cocoon shaped one) since I was about seven years old. And I still do! These are lovely...
All I can think about when looking at #4 is how much gumbo I could cook in it!
These seem super creepy. Have you seen the hanging chair from French Fermob? Lovely, and no chance of claustrophobia!

This chair has been taunting me for years. It's in a shop in Auckland, NZ. It's amazing!!

I was so excited to see this post because I just scored a sweet pod chair at a rummage sale a couple days ago!

It's not as big as some of these ones, but it's surely a comfy spot to hang out...and not as claustrophobic as some may think the big ones are!
ohh, that kettal chair is awesome. fyi if you're thinking of getting the kettal one, make sure its in stock at your dealer...their furniture comes from Spain on a SLOW boat. beautiful and good quality merchandise, but it probably wouldn't get to you before summer's over unless its in stock here in the US.
#1 is amazing. I know Kettal is a really sought after brand for contract work and what not. It's used in a lot of hotels in Vegas and LA. Pretty sure there's a dealer in LA called Niche that will do residential too?
